[Recording Server] How to re-install and back up software setting and recording database - 20250730

Q. How to back up and Re-install GV-Recording Server software?

A. User may perform the questioned task with the steps provided:

Before attempting, please make sure to stop the Recording Server service using the system tray icon.

1. Using FBR
  1. Stop the Recording Server by right-clicking the Recording Server icon in the system tray and selecting Backup Settings as shown below.

  2. Check the configurations you want to back up.

  3. Save to a .backup file.

To import the settings:
  1. Click the Recording Server icon again after stopping the service, then select Restore Settings.

  2. Choose the .backup file to import.

  3. Select the settings to import and click the OK button.

  4. A progress bar will appear, and the message Done will be shown once the process is complete.

  5. When finished, please restart the Recording Server service.

*Note: We do not recommend removing the Recording Server program source folder.

2. Clean Re-install (Optional)

If the user wishes to remove the Recording Server folder for a clean re-install:
  1. Perform a backup using FBR and manually copy the .db3 files for use during restore.
  2. Use File Explorer to open the Recording Server software program folder.

  3. Locate and back up all .db3 files under the Recording Server folder to a temporary location.

  4. After installing the new Recording Server:
    • Import the FBR settings
    • Manually copy the .db3 files back into the Recording Server program folder
Note: If the .db3 files were configured to be stored outside the default Recording Server program path (
