Issue
Microsoft has announced that many Windows-based clients would be vulnerable to the WannaCry ransomware attack due to their long-outdated security architecture. Even though GeoVision’s software and applications are unaffected, we strongly encourage you to apply the relevant Windows updates as soon as possible.
Solution
For all Windows Operating Systems
Soon after the WannaCry Randsomware attack infiltrated computer networks worldwide, Microsoft released a comprehensive series of security patches for all Windows operating systems.
Locate your Windows operating system and download the specific patch found on the page:

For GV-Surveillance Systems
Since the default setting for Windows Update is disabled, enable the Windows Update service with the instructions provided below, in order to allow Security Updates and ensure your computer’s security.
Note: The following instructions are based on embedded Windows 7 operating system.
- Make sure that you have exited to Windows from the GV-Desktop.
- On the GV-Desktop, click the Settings button, and type the valid ID and password. The default ID and Password are “0000”. The Settings dialog box appears.
- Under Desktop Type, select Windows from the drop-down list, and click OK.
- Click the Log Off button, and type the ID and Password to display the Windows desktop.

- After exiting to Windows, press Ctrl + Alt + Del to call up the Windows Task Manager.

- In the Services tab, click Services.

- Select and double-click Windows Update from the Services list.

- In the Windows Update Properties window, select Automatic (Delay Start) from the Startup type list and click Apply.

- Click Start below the Service status and click OK to activate the Windows Update service.

- On the Windows desktop, click Windows and select Control Panel.

- In the Control Panel window, select System and Security.

- Under Important updates, select Check for updates but let me choose whether download and install them and click OK to finish the settings.

- When checking for updates is completed, click Install updates to download and install Windows updates to your computer.

- The recordings on the connected cameras will be stopped at the time your Windows is restarting.
- For GV-DVR / NVR, you must log into your GV-Desktop again and resume monitoring after system startup.
- GV-VMS / GV-Recording Server, with Service Mode function, will start automatically after system startup and run in the background without logging into a Windows user account.
