[Technical Notice] How to Monitor Entry or Exit upon Notification Events Using an Analog PTZ Camera

Summary
By integrating a PTZ camera with the GV-ASManager, you can monitor the door entry and/or exit when notification events occur. When a specified notification event occurs, the PTZ camera can be configured to monitor the door entry and/or exit point, and return to another preset point after a specified idle time. This application is illustrated below.

Note: You can install up to 2 analog PTZ cameras to monitor one door upon notification events.

Connecting an Analog PTZ Camera to the GV-DVR / NVR
To physically connect a PTZ camera with the GV-DVR / NVR, you need to make 3 physical connections. Follow the steps below:
  1. Connect the video cable from the PTZ camera to the video input of the GV-DVR / NVR.
  2. Connect the RS-485 cable from the PTZ camera to a GV-COM / GV-HUB Box.
  3. Connect the USB port of the GV-COM / GV-HUB Box to a computer in which the GV-DVR / NVR is installed.

Adding the Camera to the GV-DVR / NVR
After the PTZ camera and the GV-DVR / NVR are physically connected, follow the steps below to add the camera to the GV-DVR / NVR:
  1. On the main screen, click the Configure button, select General Setting and select System Configure. The System Configure dialog box appears.
  2. Select PTZ Device Setup. Under the PTZ Settings section, select the camera brand to be added.
  3. Click the button shown below. The camera settings dialog box appears.

  4. Select Active. Use the drop-down lists to select the Com Port that is connected to the camera and keep the default Baud Rate.

  5. Click OK to finish adding the PTZ camera.

Mapping the Camera to a Channel on the GV-DVR / NVR
  1. On the GV-DVR / NVR’s main screen, click Configure, select Accessories, select PTZ Device and select Camera Mapping PTZ Dome. The Camera Mapping Setup dialog box appears.
  2. Select the PTZ camera from the Device drop-down list, and channel from the Camera drop-down list to map the PTZ images to that channel.

  3. Select PTZ Inactivity and configure the following options so that the camera will turn to another preset point to monitor after the camera has monitored a preset entry/exit point for the specified idle time.
    • Idle over: The time period that the camera stays for when a specified notification event occurs.
    • Preset: The point that the camera turns to when the Idle over time ends. For details on the configuration of a preset point, please see Configuring the Preset Point on PTZ Camera below.
  4. Click OK.

Configuring the Preset Point on PTZ Camera
For the PTZ camera to monitor the entry/exit when a specified notification event occurs, configure at least a preset point at the door entry/exit. Follow the steps below:
  1. On the PTZ Control Panel, use the Pan / Tilt Control buttons to move the camera to the location of the door entry/exit in live view.
  2. To save this Preset point, click the Option button, select Preset Set and select the desired Preset number.

  3. A confirmation message appears. Click Yes.
  4. To configure another preset point, repeat steps 1 to 3 and select a different Preset number to save.

Mapping the Camera to GV-ASManager
  1. To map the camera from the GV-DVR / NVR to the GV-ASManager, the GV-DVR / NVR must first be enabled for video access. On the Main System, click Network, select Control Center Service, and select Start Default Service.
  2. On the GV-ASManager’s menu bar, click Setup and select Devices. The Controller List dialog box appears.
  3. Click a listed Controller. The dialog box appears.

  4. Click a Gate tab that the PTZ camera is installed with. The dialog box appears.

  5. Select Camera Mapping and click the first Arrow button. The DVR List dialog box appears.
  6. Click the Add button and select Add DVR Mapping. The Host Setting dialog box appears.
  7. Type the Host Name, IP Address, ID and Password of the GV-DVR / NVR. Keep the default Data and Log Port.

  8. Click OK and return to the DVR List dialog box.
  9. Select the channel to which the PTZ camera has been mapped and click OK. The selected channel should now be displayed under First Camera.

  10. Click OK. The camera is mapped to the specific Gate.

Setting Notification Types
Specify the notification events you wish to activate camera monitoring. Follow the steps below:
  1. On the GV-ASManager’s menu bar, click Tools, and select Notifications. The Notification Setting dialog box appears.
  2. On the Access tab, select a notification event for which you wish to activate camera monitoring, select Trigger Preset – Camera 1 and select a preset point that directs the camera to the door entry/exit.

  3. To activate camera monitoring for more notification events, repeat step 2.
  4. Click the Event tab and repeat step 2 and 3.
  5. Click OK.
