[Technical Notice] Compatibility Issue between Backup Server and 3rd-party Storage System

Unread post by alexhon »

Article ID: GV10-09-02-12
Released Date: 2/12/2009

Applied to
GV-Backup Server V8.2.0.0 and V8.3.0.0
GV-Backup Viewer V8.2.0.0 and V8.3.0.0
GV-Remote ViewLog

Symptom
Both recording files and log data of a GV-DVR / NVR could be backed up to an external iSCSI storage system through the Backup Server. After the backup was finished, however, you could not access the storage system through either Backup Viewer or Remote ViewLog.

Cause
This problem occurred because of a compatibility issue between some 3rd-party iSCSI storage systems and the Backup Server. When the backup of files begins, two inner connections are created between the Backup Server and a storage system to transfer log data and recording files. However, some 3rd-party storage systems only allow one connection at a time to the host or initiator. Although no errors appear at the Backup Server, the backup is actually incomplete.

For example, the backup of files to Theus N5200 storage system only includes recording files without log data. Accessing to the backup files from either Backup Viewer or Remote ViewLog then fails.

Solution
To resolve this issue, download the latest version of software from our website. For GV-Backup Server, because the software is now integrated into the GV-DVR / NVR software, download GV-DVR / NVR instead.
