[Technical Notice] Read Range Issues with GV-RU9003

Symptom
The read range of GV-RU9003 RFID is shorter than expected, or tag detection is slow and sluggish.


Solution
The maximum 10 m (33 ft) read range is achieved under optimal conditions when the GV-RU9003 and the RFID tag are installed at the same height, directly facing each other. Because actual performance is highly dependent on environmental and situational factors, check the following variables if you experience range issues:
  • Installation height and angle: Ensure the GV‑RU9003 is positioned correctly relative to the RFID tag, considering lane position and curvature.
  • Power supply stability: Verify there are no voltage fluctuations in the GV‑RU9003's input power.
  • Tag quality: Ensure the RFID tags are in good physical condition and of high quality.
  • Physical obstructions: Check for obstacles between the reader and the tag, especially metal objects or metallic/insulated windshield films.
  • Electromagnetic interference: Scan for nearby wireless devices or electrical equipment that may be causing interference.
  • Co‑channel interference: Ensure multiple RFID readers installed in close proximity are not interfering with one another:
    • When facing opposite directions → Readers must be placed at least 20 cm (7.9 in) apart.
    • When facing the same direction → Readers must be assigned separate frequency bands (available upon request at purchase).
If adjusting these factors does not resolve the issue, please contact us for remote troubleshooting. To facilitate a remote support session, your GV-RU9003 must be connected to a PC using an RS-485 to USB converter.
