Summary
As the outer appearances between GV-IO Box 8E / 16E V1 and GV-IO Box 8E / 16E V2 look exactly the same, it may be hard for users to distinguish between the two.
Below are two ways for you to determine if your GV-IO Box 8E / 16E is of V1 or V2:
- Packaging: The specific model of your GV-IO Box 8E / 16E shall be highlighted on its packaging box, as demonstrated below:
- Firmware Version: GV-IO Box 8E / 16E with a firmware versions of V1.xx are V1 while GV-IO Box 8E / 16E with a firmware versions of V2.xx are V2, as demonstrated below.
To check the firmware version of your GV-IO Box, choose one of the following methods:
- via Web Browser: Type the IP address of your GV-IO Box, log into its Web interface and click Other Setting.
- via GV-IP Device Utility: Download and install GV-IP Device Utility on a PC to scan for GV-IO Box within the same LAN.
Updating Firmware for GV-IO Box 8E / 16E
WARNING: When updating GV-IO Box 8E / 16E V1 of firmware V1.10 or earlier, it must be accessed through Windows XP or Windows 7, over the network, as updating its firmware by any other method will cause irreversible damage to the device. See below for the details on firmware update.
IMPORTANT:
- For GV-IO Box 8E / 16E V1, firmware updating through GV-IP Device Utility is only supported when you are updating it from firmware V1.21 or later.
- Both methods of firmware updating, from Web Browser and GV-IP Device Utility, are supported for all versions of GV-IO Box 8E / 16E V2.
via Web Browser
- In the left menu, click Firmware Update. This page appears.
- Click the Browse… button to locate the firmware file (*.bin).
- Click the Upload button to start updating. This shall take around 60 seconds.
- When the update is completed, you are prompted to reboot the device.
- Click OK. The GV-I/O Box will be rebooted
- Download and install GV-IP Device Utility.
- Locate your GV-GV-IO Box 8E / 16E from the list.
- Double-click the GV-IO Box. When a dialog box appears, click the Firmware Upgrade tab.
- Click the Browse button to locate the firmware file saved at your local computer.
- Type the username and password of the device under User Login.
- Click Upgrade.
